What We're About

Village does quite a number of things that would characterize most any church, such as:

  • Sunday Services
  • Making guests feel welcomed.
  • Treasuring the gospel and trying to sensitively explain the message of Christ to others.
  • Emphasizing learning from the Bible.
  • Praying together.
  • Worshipping and singing together to the Lord.
  • Conducting various ministry initiatives and programs for children, women, and men.
  • Meeting in small groups - typically in homes.
  • Appreciating solid friendships at Village.
  • Encouraging each other - especially those going through difficulties.
  • Partnering with other churches to provide for the homeless and poor.
  • Supporting various local outreaches and foreign missions.

But this question remains: Why do we do any of this? Simply because our highest dedication is not actually to Village Church, but to Jesus Christ!

What We Believe

Is there something really solid on which we can base beliefs and that will take us beyond our own opinions or current societal trends in thinking? We are counting on it! Belief is not just about what you believe but who you believe as well. Jesus not only taught the truth but made the astounding claim that He was the Truth.  For Village, belief begins with belief in Him and His Word!

On occasion, we fully expect that what scripture states will conflict with our own thinking. In that case, guess whose thoughts should prevail? If we were to decide what God is like and who Jesus Christ is . . . our “beliefs” would have no credibility. So, we gladly affirm the Bible as God’s Word and the final say for faith and practice.

Why Jesus graphic

Why Jesus?

As all Christians and churches down through history have experienced, no matter how sincere an individual may be and no matter how good a congregation might become, we all have many imperfections. The same is not true of the Lord Jesus! He is uniquely perfect in every way and in every degree. If Jesus is who He claims to be, He is the Son of God and the one and only Savior! We gladly believe all of this and more to be true of Him. So, Christianity is not first about Christians, either as individuals or collectively as the church. It is first and last about how absolutely incredible Jesus Christ is. The end game both for the church and for us as individuals is to know and please God through His grace – and then to do and enjoy all the rest with that emphasis in mind.

God-given grace and faith enable us to become responsive to Jesus as Savior, opening our heart to recognize and start following Him. To thoroughly live for Him is the greatest challenge in life, requiring a courage and an ability that only God can bring about. Yet, the Lord Jesus is absolutely trustworthy! We find our core identity in belonging to Him and hope to make good progress as His disciples through a reliant dependence upon Him.
